Being Sensitive to Oil

Posted by

Canola oil; known as one of the healthiest oils because it’s rich in omega-3s, low in saturated fats, and is a good source of oleic acid. It’s in everything from cereals to baked goods. Since it is believed to be one of the healthiest oils, it is used in most restaurants and cooked with many foods we eat today. If you pick up any package of food you have in your house, you’ll most likely see canola oil listed on the back.

Having a sensitivity to an oil that is used in pretty much everything is quite of a struggle. I pick up a bag of Goldfish only to find out that it has canola oil in it. I grab a pack of Oreos only to discover that there’s canola oil in them. I look at the ingredients of some cereals only to see that canola oil is listed. I try to get some meat at the deli only to find out that the meats are soaked in canola oil. Why? Why does there have to be oil in everything? Why is meat placed in oil? What can I eat if canola oil is in most foods?

Some good things about not being able to eat canola oil is that I’m pretty much forced to eat healthy now. I have to eat more organic, natural, and allergy-friendly foods that either have no oil in them or a different oil as well as fruits and vegetables. I’ve lost a few pounds because I had to change my diet and eat healthier and because when I do eat something with canola oil in it, it just goes right through me. In a way, I’m kind of happy that I developed my sensitivities as I now have a healthier diet and have to take better care of my body. If I continued to eat canola oil and unhealthy foods, maybe something worse could have happened to my body. Who knows, but I believe that everything happens for a reason.
